Camp Verde Bugle, Camp Verde, Arizona Thursday, April 02, 2009 Claude L. Young went to be with his maker on March 25, 2009. He leaves behind his wife, Jean; sons: Barry Young of San Antonio, Texas, Garry Young of Phoenix, Ariz., Michael Young of Colo., Matt Cavanaugh of Sedona, Ariz.; daughters: Samantha Young of Cottonwood, Ariz., Dana Richards of Goodyear, Ariz., and Priscilla Stallcup of Scotland, Texas, and 11 grandchildren. Claude was born on October 22, 1920 to Claude and Pearl Young in Eliasville, Texas. He spent his youth in Wichita Falls, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas. He enlisted in the Navy during World War II and served as a First Lieutenant. After the war, he worked with his father in the family's dry cleaning business, and was a pioneer in the first coin-operated laundry and health food store. His great passion was drilling for oil, which he did in Texas and Arizona. Claude was owner and broker of Cottonwood Realty for many years until the realty sold in 1985. He then retired and spent most of his time playing golf at Pinewood located in Munds Park, which he considered his "Spot of Heaven on Earth." He was a two-time "hole-in-one golfer." He was loved much and will be greatly missed by his wife, family, and friends. A private memorial will be held in the near future at the Veterans' Cemetery in Phoenix. Because of his love for his canine companions, Cootie, Casey and Bruiser, any donations in memory of Claude should be made to the Cottonwood Humane Society or the Verde Valley Community Hospice for their competence, commitment, and compassion.
