Edna Hazel Angle Nelson, 85, died Saturday, April 18, 2015, in Eagar. She was born Dec. 4, 1929, in Phoenix, the daughter of Oscar Lee and Annie Beatrice Marble Angle.

Edna’s growing up years were split between Phoenix and Eagar. After graduating (in three years) from Round Valley High School, Edna married Darval Harris Nelson. They lived several years in Phoenix until they moved to Tucson in 1956, where they raised four children.

Edna attended the University of Arizona, earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. She was constantly moving, doing and learning; serving in Primary, Young Women’s and Relief Society for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was an educator, teaching grades 3, 6 and 7 in Tucson Unified Public Schools.

Very active, she became a certified scuba diver while in Tucson, making her qual dives in Guaymas, Mexico. After retirement, she and Darval moved to Eagar before serving an 18-month mission for the LDS Church in San Antonio, Texas, where they made many dear friends. They also served in the Snowflake Temple.

Edna enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making fudge, eating peanut M&Ms and spotting elk after dark near Alpine. She and Darval recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.

Edna is survived by her husband, Darval Harris Nelson of Eagar; children Dee Ann Gardner of Phoenix, Randy (Nyla) Nelson of Chandler and Janise (Addison) Everett of Washington, Utah; daughter-in-law Rosemary Nelson, brothers Gene (Dorothy) Angle and Jerry (Dora) Angle; and 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sons Darval Harris Nelson Jr. and Mark Arnn Nelson.

A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 24, at Burnham Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Eagar Stake Center, with visitation from 9-10:30 a.m.
