Safford, Arizona ~ April 22, 2015

Mandi Lynn Rios entered into eternal rest early Saturday morning, April 11, 2015, in Phoenix. Mandi entered this world early as a “preemie” on April 21, 1987, in Tucson, the daughter of Rito and Marie Rios. She was the fifth child of six siblings and was the baby girl of the family.

Mandi attended Safford Schools and was a 2005 graduate of Safford High School. While pursuing a higher education at South Mountain College, Mandi worked at Walmart, Target, Check Into Cash Store and the Gila River Casino in Phoenix. She graduated from South Mountain College with an Associate of Arts degree in 2009. At the time of her passing, she was employed at Mount Graham Regional Hospital in the Materials Management Department.

On Dec. 14, 2008, Mandi and her longtime partner, Jason Jurado, were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Janelle. Mandi was a loving and amazing mom to Janelle. She loved Janelle so much she decided to return to Safford in 2012 so that Janelle could be surrounded by the large family and have the opportunity to play softball as she had done.

Mandi was raised watching her siblings and parents play softball, so it was no surprise when she began her softball “career” at the age of 5. She loved the excitement of the game and making friends. She played in the local summer leagues and continued playing at Safford High School. She also played at South Mountain College for the two years she attended. Mandi played volleyball and girls basketball in high school, but softball was what she loved most. She was always ready to play and participated in many softball tournaments on “family” teams. It was her dream to see Janelle follow in her footsteps and play softball. She had recently volunteered to coach a minor league girls softball team.

We will always remember Mandi for her beautiful smile that would light up the room; her special fast-talking manner that made you laugh and tell her to take a breath and, most importantly, how much she loved her daughter, Janelle, and all of her family. She was a loving and caring sister, aunt, friend, co-worker and mother to Janelle.

Mandi leaves behind: her daughter, Janelle; her longtime partner, Jason Jurado; her father, Rito A. Rios; her mother, Marie Rios; brothers, Michael and Rito Jr. (RJ); sisters, Trina Roybal (Arthur), Bobbi Jo Rios and Sabrina Ortiz (Ricardo); nephews, Chanse Rios, Joseph Rios, Alejandro Roybal and Richard Ortiz; and nieces, Joey Rios, Dominiq Roybal, Justine Rios, Aubrianna Ortiz, Elisa Ortiz and Hailey Rios.

Mandi was preceded in death by: her grandfather, Patricio Sainz; grandmother, Lydia Perez; and cousins, Raul Luzania and Eric Perez.

A Mass of Christian burial for Mandi was celebrated Friday morning, April 17, 2015, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church by Rev. Robert Rodriguez. Committal followed in the Safford Cemetery.

A rosary was prayed Friday morning, April 17, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church by Deacon Carl Vessels.
