Kent Brimhall Palmer
(September 09, 1923 - May 22, 2015)

Kent Brimhall Palmer of Taylor, Arizona passed away April 22, 2015 in Snowflake, Arizona. He was 91 years old. Kent was born in Colonia, Juarez, Mexico on September 9, 1923. When he was approximately two years old he moved from Mexico with his parents back to Arizona.

His childhood was somewhat lackadaisical as the great depression was in full swing. His oldest sister, Dorcie, was his second or third grade teacher. His duties as a youth were riding the center horse of a three-horse grain binder. He enjoyed sports in grade school and high school. He boxed on the Snowflake High School Team, played basketball, pole vaulted, played football and baseball. He also enjoyed performing in some of the school plays.

At the age of 17 school became a bore so he went to seek his fortune as a truck driver. Later he was employed on the Castle Dome Mining Project in Miami, Arizona as a cement finishers’ helper. Shortly after, he was drafted into the Army, sent to Abilene, Texas and Camp Barkley Medical Replacement Training Center. When Basic Training was over he was assigned to the 80th Infantry Division as a Medic in the 305th Medical Battalion as an Assistant Driver on an ambulance. His entire Division was aboard the Queen Mary in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean on July 3rd, 1944. The Army Convoy made their way to Southampton across the Channel to the Normandy Peninsula and said hello to Omaha Beach and World War II. The 80th Division was now a part of the 3rd Army under General Patton. He received the Bronze Star in Luxembourg and received an honorable discharge on January 1, 1946.

Kent married Susie Isabell DeWitt on March 8, 1944 during a short nine days leave prior to leaving for Europe. When he returned home from the War they moved to Taylor for a short time and then Davenport, Iowa where he entered Chiropractic School.

Kent loved this country, his wife of over 71 years, and his family. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He wrote the most beautiful and heartfelt poetry and was asked many times to speak and share his work. He knew how to cook, keep house, and was a help mate for his wife. He was her caregiver for many years. He has left a great legacy for his family as he was an example to each of us.

Kent was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Isabell DeWitt Palmer, and is survived by his children, Dorcie (Bob) Greco of Overgaard, Arizona, his four sons, Terril (Deann) of Safford, Gary (Kayrene) of Heber, Bruce (Laurie) of Taylor, and Ron of Winslow, Arizona. He has 23 grandchildren and 72 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Taylor Arizona LDS Stake Center, 309 W. Willow Lane with a viewing at 9:00 a.m. before the service. Interment will follow at the Reed Hatch Memorial Cemetery, Taylor, AZ.
