William F Doty

William F Doty, father of Mrs. John Riggs, died at her home last Thursday morning. Mr. Doty had attained the ripe age of 82 years, having been born in Brown county, Illinois, November 25, 1834. He had been a farmer most of his life, but had spent some years in mining. He had been living with Judge and Mrs. Riggs for the past seven years, since the death of his last wife, which occurred in New Mexico. Mr. Doty was of a quiet nature and had made many friends during his residence here, who regret his demise. He was a consistent member of the Baptist church, having united with that denomination at the age of 22 years, and died in full faith and communion. He had been twice married, the first time in 1853 to Dicey Cupp and the second time to Susan Merwin, who died in 1910. The following children survive: Mrs. M. A. Algire of Kansas City; Mrs. Ada Weldon of Cherryvale, Kansas; Mrs. L. A. Jackson of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. M. J. Riggs of Wickenburg, and a son, S. P. Doty, of Phoenix. Besides Mrs. Riggs and her daughter, Mrs. Ethel McGinnis, Mr. S. P. Doty and his daughter, Mrs. Edith Hoge, were the only near relatives present at the funeral, which was held from the residence of Judge John Riggs, the interment being at the local cemetery.
