Pete Madrid, age 87, a long time resident of Chimayo passed away in Prescott, Arizona on Tuesday, December 16, 1997. Pete was born in Duran, New Mexico on March 22, 1910.

He retired from New Mexico State Government after 31 years of service. His last 17 year were with State Land Office. He was actively involved in politics at all levels. He helped start the Chimayo Volunteer Fire Department and he served as the site manager at the Espanola Senior Citizens Center for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ermelinda Madrid of Chimayo. He is survived by five children: Liz Mason and husband Bill of Prescott, Ariz., Joyce Bustos and husband Elmer of Santa Fe, Peter and wife Diane of Tucson, Ariz., Kathy Tapia and husband Mauricio of Las Vegas, N.M. and Joseph and wife Miriam of Arlington, Texas. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. and a devotional service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday at Block-Salazar Mortuary. In Espanola. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 1997. At 11:00 a.m. at El Buen Pastor Presbyterian Church in Chimayo.

Interment to follow at Presbyterian Cemetery in Chimayo.

Arrangements are under the direction of Block-Salazar Mortuary.
