Herman (Woody) Woodfin

Herman "Woody" Woodfin, age 96, passed away March 9 at his home in Wickenburg. He was born July 7, 1911 to Edwin and Carrie Woodfin at their home on a farm near Rockford, Ala, where he was raised and graduated from high school in 1930.

He enlisted in the Army air force in 1942 and was stationed at Lukefield, Ariz. After his discharge in 1945, he began a 15-year career with Standard Oil. In 1961, Woody purchased his first service station in Aguila, Ariz. In 1971 he, along with his stepson Jack Lowe and friend Franklin "Buddy" Vaughn, formed Woody's Enterprises, Ltd, doing business as Woody's Food Stores. Woody retired in 1973 to pursue his love of fishing, hunting and gardening.

Woody is survived by his stepchildren Jack Lowe of Wickenburg, Pat Wemesfelder of Wickenburg, and Carolyn Brazell of Porterville, Calif. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Dixie and his second wife Flora, sister Jessie Woodfin, and two grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of David's Desert Chapel Funeral Home.

Viewing is Thursday (March 13) at 1:30 to 2:30pm at David's Desert Chapel Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 3pm at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery.
