| Jeanne Louise Martin Born in Havana, Illinois on June 15, 1907 Departed on Feb. 8, 2006 and resided in Cottonwood, Arizona. Jeanne L. Martin, 98, resident of Cottonwood, Ariz., passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2006. She was born June 15, 1907 to Sidney and Lula Paul in Havana, Illinois, where she spent part of her childhood growing up on their farm. Jeanne's parents bought a new farm in New Mexico, where she spent the remaining years of her childhood and everyday Jeanne would ride her horse to school. After graduating High School, she moved to the Los Angeles area of California, where she met and married William A. "Woody" Martin. They remained in Southern California for a few more years, then together they moved to Arizona, where they became long-time residents of Phoenix. During the summer months, they spent almost every weekend in Northern Arizona, where they enjoyed camping and fishing. A few years prior to Woody's retirement, he and Jeanne bought a small summer retreat in the Indian Gardens area of Oak Creek Canyon. Woody was diagonosed with cancer, and as a result of it, he took an early retirement. He and Jeanne moved into their small retreat and while living there, Woody was able to finish upgrading and expanding it. Jeanne and Woody moved into Sedona a couple years later when the history making flood came through Oak Creek Canyon. Here she continued to nurse Woody through his six year battle with cancer. After Woody passed away, Jeanne continued living in Sedona for awhile, she then went to Denver, Colorado for a brief time, but returned to Sedona. A few years later she made her final home in Cottonwood, where she has been the past 20 years. Jeanne was a spunky, strongly independent lady. She enjoyed living alone in her home, and did so right up to the last few months of her life. she was always up to date with politics and baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs! She did lovely handwork of all kinds until she lost her sight to macular degeneration. Books on tape then became an important part of her life. Constants in her life were; her much loved small dog, and a smoking cigarette. When Jeanne was no longer able to care for herself in one way or another, she was very fortunate to have such wonderful caregivers. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Frances Simon. Her mother passed at the age of 97, and Frances passed at the age of 92. Some of Jeanne's survivors include, her niece, Jeane Brown; her great-niece, Meredith Dawson and her great-grand niece, Alanna Rizzolo.
