Phillip DeMiguel Sr.
(June 9, 1931 - June 22, 2015)

Phillip DeMiguel Sr., born June 9, 1931, passed away early Monday morning on June 22, 2015 in his home town of Flagstaff, AZ. Phillip was 84 when he passed, and those who knew him would say that he lived a long and meaningful life.

He was preceded in death by his brothers: Julian, Luis "Tito", and Manuel DeMiguel, as well as his son's Phillip DeMiguel Jr. and Anthony DeMiguel. Phillip is survived by his loving wife, Natividad DeMiguel his sister Francis (Pio) Nieto, his remaining children: Natalie DeMiguel, Frank (Grace) DeMiguel, and Louis (Emily) DeMiguel, and his grandchildren: Nicholas, Lisa, Francesca, Chante, Brooke, Lucas, Cameron, Haily, Cody, and Jonathan.

Phillip was born in Flagstaff, AZ on June 9, 1931 to Luis and Francisca DeMiguel. After graduating from Flagstaff High School, Phillip enlisted in the US Navy and served his country on the AV 12 Pine Island Seaplane Tender and was honorably discharged as a Veteran of the Korean War. Additionally, Phillip was honorably discharged from the National Guard. In 1953, on Valentine's Day, Phillip married Natividad Mauri- the love of his life, his life partner, and the mother of his children. He and Natividad lived a quiet, peaceful, and respectable life. Phillip's determination to support his family and his ever inquisitive mind drove him to earn two college degrees, and ultimately his Masters degree in Education would help to further define Phillip as an inspirational mentor to the youth in his home town.

Phillip taught for over 33 years in the Flagstaff Public School System and touched the lives of many students and their families. He was well known and well received by all who knew him. In addition to his academic, military, and social accomplishments, Phillip was also a member of the Elks Lodge, The American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign War, a long-time parishioner of the San Francisco de Asis Catholic Parish, and a leader in the Youth Conservation Corp (YCC).

Phillip enjoyed a humble life, which he shared with his wife, children, close friends, neighbors, and extended family. He had a thirst for knowledge and could often be seen teaching those around him something about Biology or Botany- his two main academic interests. Phillip also enjoyed such leisure activities as hunting, fishing, and tending to his home and "Rancho Campo Verde". Phillip's bright smile, boisterous laugh, and quick wit often helped to put others at ease and served as a magnetic force ultimately drawing people near. He was a learned man of many interests and had a contagious spark for life and all it had to offer. Phillip loved wholly, served his country and community humbly, and worked hard all his life. He is a man to be revered, remembered, and respected.

In line with his humble nature, Phillip requested his final services be minimal and reserved for immediate family only.

For those hoping to honor Phillip's memory, a funeral mass will be held at the San Francisco Nativity Catholic Church located at: 16 West Cherry, Flagstaff, AZ. 86001 on Friday June 26th, 2015 at 10:00 am. In addition, in lieu of flowers to honor his memory, donations can be made to the Music Scholarship in the name of his late son: Phillip DeMiguel Jr. at Northern Arizona University #05003.
