Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on April 8, 1927.
Departed on Dec. 6, 2005 and resided in Cottonwood, Arizona.

Ellery James (Al) Whitmer Jr., 78, resident of Cottonwood, Ariz., passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2005,

Al was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on April 8, 1927 to Ellery Sr. and Margaret Whitmer.

Al was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran and also a member of the American Legion.

In his youth he attended COE College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he majored in music. He had an appreciation for music his entire life, even retiring as musician and printer.

Al was an avid baseball fan. He also enjoyed gardening and reading. His greatest enjoyment however, were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Mark of Claremaore, k., Steve of Huntington Beach, Calif., Danny of Sahuarita, Ariz., Sherry Louden of Clarkdale, Ariz., Sue Hessey of Simi Valley, Calif., and Julie Zimmer of Corona, Calif. His brother, Harold Whitmer of Clinton, Ia.; sister, Mary Burns of Santa Ana, Calif., 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive him.
