A memorial service celebrating the life and memory of Theresa Jane Olson was held on Saturday, June 6 in Michigan. She had passed away in Detroit on January 25 (2015) at the age of 89.

Born November 6, 1925 in Belfast, New York Jane grew up in Port Allegany and was the daughter of Nora and Arthur Wylie. In 1946, she graduated as a registered nurse from Meyer Memorial Hospital in Buffalo and married Eric M. Olson of Port Allegany.

The following year, her daughter Kate was born and two years later, her son Eric (Rick). In 1954, she gave birth to her daughter Sara Lynne.

In the 1950's, after moving with her family to Michigan, Jane returned to her nursing career at Mt. Clemens General Hospital. Throughout her life, she was faithful participant in Harvard Medical School's important "Nurses' Health Study" and often volunteered for Red Cross blood drives.

Like her father, Jane love opera and classical music and was an avid reader, consuming not only books but at least two newspapers a day. She loved to dance and once performed in a little theater group. She was also a fluid writer and throughout her life kept insightful diaries, gathering bits of wisdom from great thinkers and often adding wise words of her own.

But it was family that always came first for Jane. There could never be too many around the table or in her home for an overnight visit. Taking after her mother, she had a knack for making something out of nothing and did it all effortlessly.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband Eric in 2005; her son Eric in 2013; and her daughter Sara Lynne in 1973.

She is survived by her daughter Kate McCusker and son-in-law Aaron Adamson of Wickenburg, Arizona; daughter-in-law Susan Olson and grandchildren Kristen Hamilton (husband Michael) and Todd Olson, along with great-grandchildren Justin and Kaley Hamilton, of Harrison Township, Michigan; her brother Bob Wylie and his wife Joyce of Dearborn Heights, Michigan; her sister-in-law Margaret Bright and husband Walter of Grand Haven, Michigan; brother-in-law Andrew Olson of Saranac, Michigan; and 22 nieces and nephews, nearly all of whom were in attendance to celebrate her life and memory.

For those who would like to do so, a donation can be made to Jane's beloved S.W. Smith Memorial Library in Port Allegany.
