James A. Fortmann Born in Dubuque, Iowa on Feb. 13, 1916. Departed on Sept. 7, 2005 and resided in Sedona, Arizona. James A. Fortmann, a resident of Sedona died September 7, 2005. Born in Dubuque, Iowa, February 13, 1916, James grew up in Iowa and moved to Chicago to attend the Art Institute of Chicago at the University of Chicago where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree and later attended the University of Southern California to get his Masters of Fine Arts. James served in World War II in the Army and was proud to do so. In 1944 he married. After the war he moved west and taught art in Long Beach California until he retired. James and his wife moved to Sedona in 1978. James and his wife loved to travel and have always enjoyed the opera and symphony productions in Arizona. James is survived by his wife of 61 years, Javus B. Fortmann and a nephew, Terry Fortmann. James elected for no services to be held and in lieu of flowers please send any donations to the Audubon Society of Sedona.
