Armando Jose Olivares

CASA GRANDE - Armando Jose Olivares of Casa Grande, a medical doctor, died April 16, 2009 at Casa Grande Regional Medical Center.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church by the Rev. Bardo Antunez.

Dr. Olivares was born in Colombia and was a son of Jose M. Olivares and Alicia Prados. He and his wife moved to Casa Grande in 1987 after closing his private practice in Holbrook. He practiced in Casa Grande for a short time. Later, he had a practice in Eloy, which had a need for a Spanish-speaking family physician.

He lived out his conviction to serve those in rural areas underserved by the medical profession. He was actively involved in Arizona Rural Health Care and a board member of the Rural Arizona Network.

Survivors include his wife, Carmen A.; a son, Armando J. Olivares of Chicago; two daughters, Ana M. McBrayer of San Diego and Alicia Olivares-Kirkeby of Denver; two brothers, Alvaro and Alberto Olivares of Colombia; two sisters, Alicia Fernandez and Alina Bitar of Colombia; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfredo and Alfonso Olivares.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Church.
