Christine Webb, 89, of Prescott, Arizona passed away peacefully Feb. 8, 2016.

She was born in Wickwar, England, a beautiful village in the Cotswolds, to Frank and Anne Nelmes. She grew up there with her two brothers and two sisters. During WWII, as a teenager, she worked at a well camouflaged munitions factory in Wickwar, a perilous job. She often described seeing German bombers flying overhead on their way to bomb London or Bristol. Bristol is about twenty miles from Wickwar, and they could see and hear the bombings of Bristol. During the bombings, Anne would instruct the children to hide under their sturdy dining room table, while she would gaze protectively out the window.

During the war, Christine met her husband, Clarvel Webb, a soldier in the U.S. Army bivouacked near Wickwar. They were married in Wickwar Church in April of 1945. After the war, she emigrated to the U.S., crossing the Atlantic in a U.S. Army troop ship with her six month old son (Raymond), traveling to Clarvel's home, a farm outside of Poteau, Oklahoma. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1946 and Superior, Arizona in 1948. The Webb's, now with two small children, moved to Prescott in 1950, where Christine resided ever since. She became a U.S. citizen in May of 1951 - she was very proud of that. She was an active long time member of the Daughters of the British Empire.

She was known for her kindness and generosity, and her positive outlook, even during difficult times. She put a smile on many faces with her gracious actions and very British lady-like manners. She had a stateliness that engendered respect and admiration.

In the early 1950s she worked at the original Goldwater's, across from the courthouse. She was good with figures and worked as a bookkeeper, financial analyst and assistant to a local stockbroker. For many years, she was also secretary to the former Pastor Smythe of the First Baptist Church.

Her husbands, Clarvel Webb and Ralph Nielsen, her brother, Ronald Nelmes, and sister, Sylvia Scott, preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Enid Hollister of Wotton-under-Edge, England; and her brother, David Nelmes of Weed, California; her three children, Raymond Webb (Marie), Sylvia Webb and Carl Webb, all of Prescott; her five grandchildren, Mark King of Fairbanks, Alaska, Cindy (Newton) Norris of Flagstaff, Cash Cooper of Phoenix, Collette Warren of Phoenix, and Jason Webb of Peoria; her four great grandchildren, Colette Webb, Taylor Webb, Raeyla King, and Skylar Warren.

The family suggests gifts be made to the local Alzheimer's Foundation.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Feb. 20, 2016, at the First Baptist Church, Solid Rock Chapel, 148 South Marina St., Prescott.

Arrangements made by Hampton Funeral Home.
