WILLIAMS, Wandell Francine

Wandell Francine Williams, 85, passed away April 6, 2009, in Tucson.

Wandell was born June 7, 1923, in Suphur, Okla. She was the third child born to John C. and Mary Conyer. Wandell moved to Tucson with her daughter, Geraldine, and son, Richard, and began working at a truck stop, which was managed by Bernard Williams.

Wandell and Bernard fell in love and married in February 1960. Sometime later, they moved to Mohave and there also managed a truck stop. Wandell was the bookkeeper for the business and also worked in a bank.

After Bernie’s retirement, they later moved to Duncan and planned to spend their rest of their lives there. Not long after, Bernie became ill. He and Wandell moved to Safford to be closer to the doctors.

After Bernie’s passing, Wandell spent her time quietly serving others. She loved her family very much and spent as much time with them as possible. Wandell would drop everything and run to the side of those who needed her.

Wandell’s hobbies included quilting, crocheting and doing genealogy. She also loved listening to the Old Time Fiddlers with her friends.

Wandell is survived by her daughter Geraldine May, and son, Richard Dean Frantz; seven siblings, seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Wandell is preceded in death by her parents, John C. and Mary Conyer; husband, Bernard W. Williams; and two siblings. Services were held at the Caldwell Funeral Chapel on Friday, April 10, at 11 a.m. Interment was at the Thatcher Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Caldwell Funeral Chapel.
