MULLENEAUX, Barbara Mae

Barbara Mae Mulleneaux was born Feb. 24, 1931, in Clifton to Lloyd Vernon Potter and Kittie Cosper Potter.

Barbara was born and raised in Clifton and attended school there, graduating from high school in 1949 as salutatorian of her class. She married Bob Burgess in 1951, and three daughters were born to them in Morenci. The family moved to South Dakota and then later back to Morenci to run their own business.

They divorced in 1972, and Barbara went to work for Greenlee County, first in the Superior Court office and then for the County Attorney’s office. In 1975, Barbara moved to San Diego briefly to stay with her sister, June, and then back to Safford in 1976, where she worked for a law firm until marrying in 1979.

Barbara married Al K. Mulleneaux in a lovely ceremony at Al’s home on the San Francisco River just north of Clifton. They lived there for many years until moving into Clifton to take care of Barbara’s mother, Kittie, until her death in 2001. They remained in this home where Barbara grew up until her death on April 5.

Barbara had struggled with diabetes for many years. As a young girl Barbara exhibited a lot of talent. She played the piano well and loved to dance. She was also an accomplished artist. Her family loves her paintings, many of which adorn their walls.

In later years, she loved to roam the mountains near Clifton with her daughters, looking for Indian ruins. Most of all, Barbara was a quiet, sweet, loving daughter, wife, mother and friend who will be forever missed. She is survived by her husband, Al Mulleneaux; sister, June Palmer; daughters, Kathy Gardner, Kristen Rodriguez and Cindy Burgess; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and by five of Al’s six children, 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 10, at the Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Morenci. Interment followed at the Ward’s Canyon Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Caldwell Funeral Chapel.
