NOLTE, Thelma G. Thelma B. (Heidinger) Nolte, a Fountain Hills resident, 98, died April 20, 2009. Thelma and her husband, William W. Nolte, moved to Fountain Hills in November of 1974 from Naperville, Illinois. She was a regularly-approved member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and one of the early members of the Fountain Hills Women’s Club. Born in Waynetown, Ind. on Jan. 12, 1911, she was the only child of Elmer J. Biddle and Lyda Anna Zerface. She attended the Waynetown Public Schools and was a member of the Waynetown Christian Church. She entered Indiana State Teachers College, Terre Haute, Ind. in 1929, and was president of the Omega Sorority and also elected to Kappa Delta Pi. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and art in 1933 (she did further study at the Chicago Art Institute and attended classes at Indiana University, Northern Illinois University, and Indiana State University). Upon graduation, Thelma taught music and art for 11 years in Indiana and 23 years in the schools of Aurora, Ill. She taught in Illinois schools at Freeman, Greenman, Nancy Hill, North Aurora and Beaupre. Thelma is survived by a stepdaughter, Sue Diane Mercier, and a stepson, William W. Nolte II, of Eau Claire, Wis.; step-grandchildren, Edmond Joseph Mercier IV of Hudson, Wis., Steven Joseph Mercier of Waseca, Minn., Michael Joseph Mercier of La Crosse, Wis., and Virginia Sue Mercier of La Crosse, Wis.; second cousins, Edith Zerface of Garrison, N.D., Lester and Olive Zerface, Hope, N.D., Lorraine and William Baasch of Page, N.D., Connie Hammond of Enid, Okla., Charles Zerface of Bremen, Ohio, Phillip and Louise Zerface of Hope, N.D., James Zerface of Tower City, N.D., and many other second cousins. Interment will be at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown, Indiana. Memorial donations may be made to the Fountain Hills Branch Library at 12901 N. La Montana Drive, Fountain Hills, AZ, 85268.
