SWANSON, Susan Lynnette

The accident happened in front of the Silver Creek Too feed store on Concho Hwy (State Route 277), about three miles east of the intersection of State Routes 77 and 277.

SNOWFLAKE/TAYLOR - A Snowflake woman is dead following a collision between a semi-truck and a van on April 27 at about 3:09 p.m. At that time, police received a report of the accident that on Snowflake Boulevard East (Concho Road) at the Silver Creek Feed Too, near the town limits. Besides several officers, the Taylor-Snowflake Ambulance and Snowflake Fire responded.

The driver of the van, Susan Lynnette Swanson, 55, of Snowflake was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chief Jerry VanWinkle said accident investigators from DPS and officers from the Snowflake-Taylor Police Department wound up the investigation at the scene.

He said no criminal charges would be laid but several traffic violations would be issued. It was expected that several drivers would be charged with following too closely.

According to VanWinkle, several cars and the semi-truck were headed west into Snowflake and the Swanson van was traveling east. The first car braked to turn into the feed store lot, causing the vehicles behind it to brake sharply. The semi-truck driver didn't have anywhere to turn and hit the van in a chain reaction accident.

The semi-truck apparently sustained minor damages and the driver refused transport by ambulance.

Swanson was reportedly active in a crafters guild that was recently founded in the area.
