Florence (Flossie, Flo) Anita Audis went to heaven on Jan. 30, 2016, in John Day, Oregon, surrounded by her family.

Florence was born May 5, 1918, in Buffalo, Wyoming, to Ernest and Elizabeth Babcock. She had a brother Harry Babcock of Ainsworth, Nebraska, who passed away at the age of 101, and a sister Doris of Santa Rosa, California, who passed away at 86.

Florence grew up on a ranch in Meeteetse, Wyoming, and later lived in Owl Creek near Thermopolis, Wyoming, before moving to Oak Creek, Arizona, as a young girl. She met her husband Archie here and they were married Nov. 23, 1935, in Flagstaff, Arizona, and were married until Archie’s death in 1972. Archie and Florence resided in Prescott, Arizona, and had four children Rita, Robert, Doris and Carrol (Ray) Audis.

Florence was an avid horsewoman and was very proud of her ability to ride and break horses. A skill she learned from both her mother and father.

She last rode at the age of 93. She loved to travel and this she did all her life. Florence never new a stranger, and if she met you, you were a friend for life. She was a kind, caring, straight spoken woman that never minced her words. She was also known to be a 5’0 keg of German dynamite.

She was a wonderful cook and shared this skill with Prescott residents over the many years she worked at the Mile High Café, Ott’s Grill, Dinner Bell and the Kirkland Bar & Steak House. Retiring at the age of 86.

Florence is survived by her son Robert Audis of John Day, Oregon; her beloved dog Poppy; and many, many family members across the U.S and Germany. She was very much loved and will be greatly missed.

A casual memorial service will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at the Kirkland Bar and Steak House in Kirkland, Arizona.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Florence’s name to Dr. David Brooks, 176 S. Palm Drive, Blythe, CA 92225.
