Rites For City Oilman Today

Services for James Arthur Middleton Sr., 50, of 3920 S. Utica ave., engineering assistant to the vice-president of refining for D-X Sunray Oil Co., will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Stanleys service room.

Mr. Middleton died of cancer in a Tulsa hospital Friday after a month's illness.

He had been with D-X Sunray and its predecessor companies since 1935. His first job was as a laborer. He became a draftsman in 1937, chief designing engineer in 1941, chief engineer in 1946 and then general refining superintendent for the mechanical section.

Born in California, Mr. Middleton moved with his parents to Prescott, Ariz., at 3 weeks of age. After graduating from Prescott high school, he received a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Arizona.

Mr. Middleton was a member of Phi Gamma Delta, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Professional Engineers of Oklahoma, Engineering Club of Tulsa, the Church of Truth, and was a 32d degree Mason in the Tulsa Scottish Rite Consistory.

Last January he was named chairman of the Westside YMCA committee of management and served as membership drive [word missing] of the group in 1957.

Survivors include the widow, Inez; two sons, James A. Jr., and John A. Middleton, both of the home; his mother, Mrs. Etta Denney, Prescott, and a grandchild.

Rose Croix services will be held in the service room immediately following the regular service. Graveside rites at Memorial Park cemetery will be conducted by Blue Lodge, AF&AM, No. 71.

The family has suggested that friends contribute to the American Cancer society.
