Charlotte Fern (Byers) Branson

Charlotte Fern Branson, 91, of Prescott, Ariz., entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 26, 2009. She was born on Friday, July 13, 1917, in Chanute, Kansas, the daughter of Daniel Earl and Sacha Marie (Marshall) Byers.

The first part of April she had major surgery and never recovered from the effects of it.

She married Wilbur Branson on Oct. 11, 1936, in Redondo Beach, Calif., where they resided and raised their family. Charlotte was active in the PTA and the church, teaching Sunday school there for 30 years.

She attended Paramount Beauty College in Calif. and worked as a beautician. Charlotte recalled in her autobiography that "she made $16.00 for a 6 day work week. Tips were few and far between and hairdo's were .35 cents - a shampoo and "finger curl" were .35 cents!"

After their two sons were born, Charlotte was a housewife and mother for many years.

After their sons were grown she attended El Camino College in Calif. and "brushed up on her typing and took courses in business machines and found a job at the South Bay Union High School District were she worked for 11 years.

They retired in 1972 and moved to Lake Isabella, Calif. Charlotte and Wilbur shared 56 wonderful years together until Wilbur's death in 1992.

Charlotte was active in Job's Daughters during her teen years. Later, P.E.O. became a very meaningful part of her life and in 1948 she joined Chapter HZ in Redondo Beach, Calif. After moving to Prescott Valley, Ariz., in 1996, she joined Chapter BG. Charlotte was a P.E.O. member for 61 years.

She enjoyed excellent health until about two years ago and because of advancing macular degeneration she decided to sell her home and move to Granite Gate Senior Living Community. Ultimately, she had to give up her two favorite hobbies, oil painting and reading, but did enjoy listening to books on tape and making new friends through the many activities provided there.

Charlotte is predeceased by her parents, her husband Wilbur, an infant brother, Billy, and her sister, Allyene Synovec. She is survived by her sons, Wayne R. and wife Judy L. Branson, William J. Branson and Bev Peterson, all of Prescott, Ariz.; sister Patricia A. and husband Bill Hatch, of Santa Ana, Calif.; grandchildren David A. and wife Theresa J. Branson of Menifee, Calif., Cheryl D. and husband Chris L. Harold, of Orange, Calif., Steven J. and wife Lori A. Branson, of Castle Rock, Colo., Jeffery S. and wife Timoree Branson, of Scottsdale, Az., Matthew J. Branson and W. Mark Branson. Charlotte is also survived by great-grandchildren, Connor J. Branson, Ryan C., Brittany L., Sarah K. and Megan N. Harold, Sarah M., Scott J. and Rachel A. Branson, Haylee A., Jay A. and Heidi M. Branson and Shea B. Branson.

Charlotte was a wonderful and caring mother and grandmother. She made friends easily and had many life-long friends. She will be truely missed by her family and friends and will be held in our hearts and memory forever.

The family would like to thank Hampton Funeral Home in Prescott, Arizona for their kind and caring assistance in this very difficult time.
