Evelyn Gladys Rappath, age 97, died peacefully in her home at 1350 Terrace View Drive, Prescott, Arizona on Aug. 2, 2016. She was born June 1, 1919, in Palmer, Iowa, and was the oldest of eight children born to Heye and Kate Loots.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter Mary Bennett (Dr. Wayne) of Prescott, Arizona; sons Thomas Rappath (Karen) of Las Vegas, Nevada and John Rappath (Stephanie) of Breezy Point, Minnesota; grandchildren, Dr. Michael Nash (Joanne) of Precott, Steven Rappath of Salt Lake City Utah, and Andrew Rappath (Lavina), of St. Paul, Minnesota; great–grandchildren Logan Nash of Prescott and Zoey Rappath of Salt Lake City.

Evelyn was a graduate of Wartburg College, studying primary education, but enjoyed saying she was an Iowa farmer’s daughter. As a woman of faith, she worked alongside her husband, Rev. Harry Rappath for 53 years in his Lutheran ministry. Throughout her life Evelyn was an active advocate for education by teaching, starting pre schools in the churches they served and, after retirement, spending many years tutoring English as a second language as well as supporting P.E.O. projects to further women’s education.

Evelyn was a joyful giving mother and thought her greatest accomplishment was her wonderful family. Her bright light will continue to shine on in all the family and friends who loved her.
