| Spokesman-Review (Spokane WA) Sunday, November 15, 2015 Jim "Corey" Arras May 24, 1954~November 12, 2015 Jim Arras, 61, died peacefully November 12, 2015. Born in Naugatuck, CT, Jim lived with his family in northern CA in heart of the redwoods along the pacific coast and atop a hillside of saguaro cactus in Wickenburg, AZ. For 13 years, he raised his family on 70 acres amidst forest and pasture in Elk, WA, and for the past 15 years enjoyed the beauty of Loon Lake, WA. Every place he and his family lived was always made more beautiful with gardens, flower beds, walls, walks, and water features that he added. Long known for his strong work ethic, Jim worked as a veterinary assistant, a lumber-mill grader, a grant writer, maintenance worker, and basketball official. Jim had a passion for adventure and was always up for a physical challenge including learning to barefoot waterski at age 54! He was an avid basketball player, alpine snow skier, water-skier, and wake boarder. Coaching came naturally to Jim and he coached several different youth sports for his children. Jim is best remembered as a top-notch basketball coach. His players learned not only skills but life-lessons from him as he challenged each player to play and live to their full potential. Jim was the Head Coach for the Riverside Racers Special Olympics Ski Team for 18 years. Jim is survived by his best friend & wife of 41 years, Cyndy Padaigas Arras; his son Jonathan & wife Jenn; his daughters, Kristin & Sarra; his grandchildren: Jared, Allegra, & Jaela; his brothers, Tom & Bill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Nora-Lee Arras. A Celebration of Jim's Life will take place at Riverside High School, Chattaroy, WA, on Friday, November 27, at 4:430. To offset the costs incurred in the 19 months of battling pancreatic cancer, friends have created accounts at Go Fund Me and Spokane Teachers Credit Union (#358899).
