Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Thursday, April 23, 2009 Mary Elizabeth Jeffrey Smythe Valentine Sisson, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away April 21, 2009, in Prescott, at the age of 97. She was born in Chicago on April 6, 1912. In 1933, she became a registered nurse, working in several hospitals, including the Fort Whipple VA Medical Center, and retired in 1972. In 1936, she married James Smythe, having three children, Mary (Molly) Webster, Roberta Bolin and James Smythe, and was widowed in 1944. In 1946, she married Clifford Valentine, having one child, Frank Valentine, and widowed again in 1948. She married Marlow Sisson in 1970, with four stepchildren, Peggy, John, Wayne and Steve. Mary was an avid reader and, as an artist, enjoyed painting. She was a member and past president of the Mountain Artist Guild. She volunteered at Sharlot Hall Museum for nearly a decade. Mary is survived by her husband; three children; three stepchildren; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss her very much. She was preceded in death by her daughter Roberta and her stepson Steve. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2009, at Hampton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her name to Sharlot Hall Museum. Arrangements have been made by Hampton Funeral Home.
