HUMPHREY, Charles Ray

Charles Ray Humphrey, 62, of Pima passed away April 18 in Mesa. Charlie was born March 11, 1947, in Morenci to Charles A. and Ethel Mae Ward Humphrey.

He attended Morenci High School, where he played football and graduated at the top of his class. Following graduation in 1965, Charlie went to work for Phelps Dodge. He started in the smelter and retired in 1997 as superintendent of the RW Garage.

He married Elaine West on Sept. 2, 1966, in Morenci. They moved to Verde Lee in 1978, and they raised their two children, Anthony and Janet. When Charlie retired in 1997, they moved to Pima. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, building and working on cars, drag racing in Tucson, and especially being with his family.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Anthony (Kelly) Humphrey and Janet (Joe) Baca; grandchildren, Michael Bingham, Cameron and Kaitlyn Humphrey, Matthew Baca, Ashley (Saturn) Hales and Analisa Baca; great-grandchildren, Victoria Pizano and Ezara Hales; father Charles A. Humphrey; sisters Glinda Joyce, (Tom) Panichi and Linda (Zackary) Denney; numerous nieces, nephews and many other family members.

Graveside services were conducted Thursday, April 23, at the Pima Cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday evening, April 22, at the Caldwell Funeral Chapel.
