Horace Milton (Mel) Bell

Horace Milton (Mel) Bell, 67, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016 at his home in Vernon with a short battle of cancer.

Mr. Bell is survived by his wife, Constance; two children: son Heath (Simone) Bell; and daughter Heather Hansen. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Horace was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including purple hearts, bronze stars, silver star and congressional awards.

He served three years with distinction as a LRP in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne. He was wounded during his service, and received medals and commendations for his dedication and bravery. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest. He served as a service officer at the Local VFW (Post 2364) and helped many Veterans receive their benefits. “We will miss him.”

A military memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at his home in Vernon. For information or directions, call 928-242-3236.
