Carrol Eva Devereaux Strang passed away peacefully on September 28, 2016 at her home in Honolulu, Hawaii at the age of 79.

Carrol was born on November 6, 1936 in Rochester, New York to George and Elsie Sauer. She married Tom Devereaux, her high school sweetheart in 1953. They moved to Prescott, Arizona in 1962 where they raised their four children.

She was a homemaker, piano teacher, and member of Sweet Adelines International. Her children remember Carrol as a kind, loyal, opinionated, and loving mother with a moral compass like no other. In other words, she was a truly awesome person.

She worked several jobs in Prescott, including as a receptionist at Yavapai College while obtaining her degree in computer science where she met Chuck Strang, who was a professor at Embry Riddle University. Carrol and Chuck were married in 1981, and have been on an adventure ever since. Whether it was climbing Mt. Kilamanjaro in Tanzania, hiking across England or France, cruising on a freighter to the Marquesas and Galapagos islands, running in the Gila National Forest near their home in Silver City, New Mexico or living in Israel, Carrol embraced life. In addition, Carrol and Chuck ran marathons all over the country including both the Honolulu and Boston Marathons. Carrol also obtained a master’s degree in early education from Chaminade University of Honolulu and taught preschool in both New Mexico and Hawaii.

Carrol is survived by her husband Charles Strang; children and their spouses: Tom (Bonnie) Devereaux, Kim Devereaux, Curt (Jeanne) Devereaux, Jill (Dave) Olson; stepdaughters and their spouses: Lori (Jason) Delooze, Jane (Dave) Kleitsch, Marta L’Estrange; siblings: Sylvia Stickel of Arizona, George “Sandy” (Sharon) Sauer, and Bill (Judy) Sauer of New York; and many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carrol was one classy lady who will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and especially her husband. Her resilience and strength were an inspiration to all who met her.

A private memorial service will be planned at a later date. Condolences can be sent to: Charles Strang c/o Wilson Senior Living, 96 Kaneohi Bay Dr., Kailua, HI 96734.
