Camp Verde Bugle, Camp Verde, Arizona Saturday, April 25, 2009 William R. Smith, 91, of Cottonwood died April 23. He was born June 2, 1917 in Hamden, Connecticut, the son of William A. and Mary Sullivan Smith. He was a graduate of West Haven, Connecticut schools. Mr. Smith a newspaper owner, publisher and editor. His interests included reading and walking. His wife, Ruth C. Smith preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, William A. Smith (Deborah) of Flagstaff; daughters, Catherine Walsh (James) of New Haven, Vt. and Nancy S. Simmons of Cottonwood; a brother, Vincent J. Smith of Mechanicsburg, Penn.; sisters, Irene C. Smith and Mary F. Smith, both of West Haven, Conn.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, April 27 in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 10 a.m. An online guestbook is available at www.westcottfuneralhome.com.
