Joyce Caroline (Mittag) Martinson

Joyce Caroline Martinson died peacefully in her sleep April 27, 2009. She was born in Wahpeton, N.D., Dec. 21, 1920, to Fredrick and Tillie Mittag.

She attended Wahpeton High School and the State School of Science. In 1942 she married Oline Martinson and moved to Breckenridge, Minn.

She enjoyed her sewing circle, church groups and Saturday night dances. She moved to Pinetop in 1969. She was employed by Elvis Pearce, Bud Bowers, Wilbur's Market and Midway Mini Storage until her retirement.

She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakeside. Joyce loved to crochet, quilt and bake. Every family member got a quilt on their wedding day.

"We will all miss her sense of humor and strength of character that made her the center of the family."

She was preceded in death by her husband "Oly," brother Roy, grandson David Martinson, son-in-law Donavan McConn and daughter-in-law Mary Martinson.

She is survived by her sister, Carol Vitiello; brother Earl Mittag; and five children, Wayne Martinson, Diane McConn, Gary (Gloria) Martinson, Joanne (Tom) Dam and Jerry (Holly) Martinson; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 6747 E. Broadway Road, in Mesa.
