HALVORSON, Robert L.

Robert L. Halvorson, brother, soldier, husband, father, and friend, 83, died April 1, 2008 at his home in Phoenix. Bob was born on January 25, 1925 in Whitewater, Wisconsin. He served as a United States Marine in WWII, on Tinian and Okinawa, and in the Korean War, surviving the battle of the Chosin Reservoir. Seeking a warmer climate, he began studies at the University of Arizona in 1952 where, later that year, he married his lifelong partner and love, Ann. Graduating in 1955, he began a career with the university's Cooperative Extension Service in Maricopa County. For the next 30 years, he served as an emissary for Arizona agriculture, making daily and weekly broadcasts on several Phoenix radio and television channels and writing for newspapers and periodicals. After retiring in 1985, Bob remained an active member of the agricultural community and enjoyed adventures with Ann, traveling, hunting and fishing, pontificating and feeding stray cats and pigeons. Bob's unique perspective on life will be missed by his many friends and especially his family.

He is survived by sisters, Jeanette Schleifer and Ruth Binney (Paul), a daughter Patty Budnik (Kurt), and granddaughter, Laurel of Tucson and sons Chris Halvorson (Samantha) of Phoenix and Jay Halvorson (Wendy) of West Virginia. Services will be held at a later date. Published in The Arizona Republic on 4/13/2008.
