James Luther "J.L." Cooper, 80, of Florence, Arizona, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2003.

Mr. Cooper served in the U.S. Navy; WWII Veteran.

Visitation Monday, July 7, 2003 at Simes Mortuaries Coolidge Chapel, 410 W. Roosevelt Ave., Coolidge, AZ 85228.

Graveside Services July 7, 2003 at Valley Memorial Park, 6894 E. Highway 287, Coolidge, AZ 85228.

FLORENCE - James Luther "J.L." Cooper, 80, of Florence died July 2, 2003 in Mesa. Visitation Monday at Simes Mortuaries Coolidge Chapel.

The graveside service will follow at 9 in Valley Memorial Park, conducted by Masonic Lodge No. 9.

Mr. Cooper was born April 23, 1923 in Eric, Okla., to Lawrence and Mary Cooper. He graduated from Florence High School.

He served in the Navy Seabees during World War II, helping to build air bases throughout the Pacific Theater. He farmed in Pinal County for many years before going to work in the construction business and retired as a superintendent. He was a member of Mason Lodge No. 9 and was a past master. He received his 50-year member pin in March.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Barbara; a son, Eddie Cooper of Scottsdale; a sister, Del Marie Harvey of Valley Farms; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen, in 1967 and his first wife, Dorothy, in 1992.
