A tragic accident on Highway 60-70 west of Forepaugh last Friday afternoon claimed the lives of two elderly California women and injuries to a third, as well as to the 12-year-old granddaughter of the latter.

The accident occurred at 1:30pm when the car in which the four were riding to their home in Glendale, went out of control and left the highway, there. Mrs Emma Atkin, 71, was pronounced dead soon after reaching the hospital while her sister, Mrs Anna Safley, 73, died of injuries a few hours later.

Driver of the car, a third sister, Mrs Amanda Cummins, age 67, and her 12-year-old granddaughter, Betty Cummins, had sufficiently recovered by Monday to be able to return to their home in Glendale.

The four passengers had left Tucson at 8:30 Friday morning, after visiting Mrs Cummins' other granddaughter, Mrs Harriet Easton.

The latter came to Wickenburg upon receiving word of the accident. She accompanied her grandmother and sister to Glendale Monday. Bodies of the two women were taken to Glendale for burial.
