LEYVA, David

Forever in the arms of angels, David “Beaver” Leyva lost his three-year battle with cancer April 7, 2009, at the young age of 56. Born to Raymundo and Victoria Leyva on May 29, 1952, David grew up in Arizona and served as a man of the land. David worked as an expert mason all over Arizona until he moved to California in 1990. There he began his career as a heavy equipment operator, working scores of jobs, including the construction of the Cox Arena in San Diego.

As the baby of the family, David’s mentors were his three brothers, and his three sisters were the loves of his life. His grandsons, Taylor and Nicholas, were his spirit, his pride and his joy.

David is survived by his loving, devoted wife and soulmate, Leslie, whom he met Christmas 1979 and later married August 8, 1988, in Scottsdale. Leslie was by David’s side until his last moments on Earth as God’s angels lifted him to heaven.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymundo; mother Vic-toria; sister Lucia; sister-in-law Mona; baby sisters, Ramona and Helen; his precious niece, Patty Leyva Cunningham and his special Delbert Hall. Other loved ones survived by David are his brothers, Ray, Lupe (Josie) and Tony (Concha); sisters Nora (Fred), Alvie (Tony) and Terri (John); stepdaughter Blythe Danielle Lett (Renrick); daughter Jessica Tellez (Steven); mother-and father–in-law Leona and William Edwards; sisters-in-law, Madison West (Martin Graser) and Judy Taylor (Ken); and brother-in-law, Gary Edwards (Merrilee); grandchildren, Taylor and Nicholas Lett and Cayden and Andrew Tellez; extended family, Troni Thurman (Bobby), Ms. June Bug and family, Jimmy Leyva, Diane Nichols, Eddie Garcia, the Hall family: Lydell, Dustin, Scooter, Tansia, Felicia and Jackson; Kathy and Patsy Catlett; many special nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends.

David was cremated April 9 in Riverside, Calif., where he remains at home with his beloved wife, Leslie. A graveside memorial service is planned in the near future, and he will be laid to rest with his parents at the Pima Cemetery in Pima. An early May commemoration of David’s life will be celebrated by Pastor Jonathan Mills, family and special friends in Perris, Calif.
