ERICKSON, Marvin

Marvin Erickson, 78, passed away at home April 23, 2009. Surrounded by loved ones, he entered the house of our Lord. Marvin was born 1931 in Denver to Felix and Laura Erickson. He was raised in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Enlisting in the Air Force in 1951, he was stationed at Walker Air Base in Roswell, N.M., where he met and married the love of his life, Annette. During their 55 years of marriage, they raised four children: Brenda (Scott) Wootton of Prescott, Michael (Margaret) of Globe, Marcus (Arleen) of Chandler and Bridgette (Richard) Baca of Lakeside. They are additionally blessed with six grandchildren, Eric, Alaina, Jennifer, Rachel, Richard and Ava.

Marvin lived a life of service to others, starting his career at the Eastern Arizona College in 1966 and retiring in 1996, holding positions of drafting instructor, division chairman and dean of vocational education. Marvin received acknowledgment as BPW “Boss of the Year" and Alumni Association faculty and staff appreciation awards.

Living in Safford more than 40 years, he was active in the First United Methodist Church, Swift Murphy Post of the American Legion, helped to raise funds for the Tucson Ronald McDonald House, on the board for SEACUS and delivered meals to the elderly. For many years he worked with the local Boys State Program.

In loving memory for a life of service to others, for which we are all grateful. Marvin will be greatly missed by family, friends, community and those whose life he touched.

Viewing will be Monday, April 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Caldwell Funeral Chapel, 112 East Main St. in Safford. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 28, 10 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Safford.
