Betty Amelia (Brower) Peratt was born on April 29, 1923, in Long Beach, Calif. She was the 13th of 15 children of Orton and Nellie (Leddick) Brower. Betty's childhood and early youth were spent in the Southern California area enjoying the warm family circle of her loving parents, 9 sisters, and 2 surviving brothers. She was employed in many areas from inspecting aircraft in San Diego during WWII to teaching school in Frederick, Md., in the 1950s, but her favorite role was that of homemaker and mother.

On July 9, 1956, she married the love of her life, Earl T. (Tom) Peratt. They shared almost 51 wonderful years as husband and wife and raised their family in El Cajon, Calif. After a turbulent youth and young adulthood, on April 19, 1964, she and her husband, Tom, attended a worship service at Lakeside Southern Baptist Church. It was there that she made the decision that changed her life forever. She heard the message of Salvation - following God and His Word, the Bible, is the only way to true peace and fulfillment. She dedicated her heart to God and never looked back.

During the next 45 years she was involved whole-heartedly in the ministries of the local church wherever she lived and supported the work of the church around the world. Two of her favorite ministries were serving as the director of the Awana Club children's program for third- and fourth-grade girls and teaching first-graders in Vacation Bible School at the Valley Church in Cupertino, Calif., for 15 years.

Betty leaves behind sisters Louis and Gloria, sons Carl Shubert, Tom and Al Peratt, and daughters Berverly Perkinson and Dianne Flood. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter. Her beloved husband, parents, five brothers, seven sisters and two sons preceded her in death.

She was called home to be with her Lord after a short illness on May 4, 2009, at the home of her daughter, Dianne, in Sacramento. Burial will be at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Ariz., on Tuesday, May 12, 2009.
