An Asarco employee "suffered a fatal accident" in the late morning of Aug. 15 at the company's Ray Mine near Kearny, 64 miles southeast of Phoenix, according to a statement from the company. Asarco, whose corporate office is in Tucson, "is cooperating fully with federal and state authorities in their ongoing investigation of what happened," the statement said. The Pinal Nugget reported that Peter Eudave, 44, of Superior was killed "in an accident on the property" at 11 a.m. Eudave was flown to Mountain Vista Hospital in Mesa, where he was pronounced dead. "Our hearts go out to family members, friends and associates of our employee who suffered this tragic accident," the Asarco statement said. Douglas E. McAllister, Asarco in-house counsel, told the Tucson Citizen on Thursday he could not say more about the incident. Asarco's Ray Mine manager did not return a call seeking to identify the worker. Ray is an open pit copper mine. Tucson Citizen August 21, 2008. |
