Hazel (Plemons) Woodruff

Hazel Woodruff, 78, of Casa Grande and formerly of Williams, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at the RTA Hospice and Palliative Care in Casa Grande. Hazel was born Sept. 20, 1929 in Cortez, Colo. to Ernest and May (Martin) Plemons.

She moved to Williams in 1969. With her husband, Bill, she co-owned and worked at both Williams' radio station, KCYN and the Sultana Theater. Both businesses were family-owned at different times. Hazel worked as a dispatcher for the Williams Police Department and was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church. She was also a member of the Williams Chapter of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club.

She was employed as a switchboard operator at the Arizona Training Program in Coolidge. Hazel enjoyed reading, travel and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

She is survived by a son, Mark Woodruff of Casa Grande; a daughter, Donna (Ron) Tissaw, a long-time resident of Williams; and two grandchildren, Michael and Brian.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Woodruff; two sons, Charles Woodruff and Jerry Ayres; and her parents.

Services were held Monday, June 9, 2008 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 1400 N. Kadora, in Casa Grande. Donations may be made in Hazel's memory to RTA Hospice or to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, both of Casa Grande.

Arrangements were entrusted to Cole and Maud Gardens Chapel in Casa Grande.
