Dorothy Mae Hande, 96, died June 24, 2017.

She was born in Yale, Oklahoma, the daughter of Fred and Dee Doutey.

Dorothy completed high school in Yale, and then graduated from a
two-year program in secretarial school. After receiving her
secretarial certification, she was employed in Washington, D.C. in
what was then called the War Department.

She married her longtime friend, Gerald Arden Sherman, on Jan. 1,
1945. They shared 30 years of marriage together and had three
daughters: Deirdre Sherman Lind, Simone Sherman Taylor, and Cynthia
Sherman Jones.

After several years of being widowed, Dorothy married James Hande.
They enjoyed golf and world travel. Married 20 years, Dorothy was
again widowed.

Dorothy was a private person with an artistic/creative soul. She saw
beauty in everyday life and loved the natural world. She had a
talent for creating beauty in her surroundings no matter the
circumstances. Dorothy had a zest for life and an intellectual
curiosity that kept her engaged with life until her final hours. She
was self-taught across a wide range of interests and loved sharing
her ideas with others.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings.

She is survived by her three daughters, four grandchildren, and
seven great-grandchildren.

“And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest
of these is love.” -- I Corinthians 13:13

We love you, Mom!
