| Longtime Flagstaff resident Arthaleen (Artie) Samples, 84, passed away in the early hours of Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008 at Flagstaff Medical Center due to a brief illness. Mrs. Samples was born in Cimarron, N.M. to John L. (Johnny CO) Rogers and Cornelia D Gleason Rogers. She grew up with her three sisters in Muleshoe, Texas. The family moved to Parks and then to Williams shortly before World War II, where she met and married Howard Hershell Samples Jr. Mrs. Samples retired from DES Job Service in 1989. She is preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her three children, Valda Eyrich (Carl), Linda Gundelach (Jim) and Steven Samples (Trish); and three grandsons. Informal graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 15, 2008. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Northland Hospice in her name.
