Benita A. Streecter

Benita A. Streecter, 100, of Kearny, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, in Casa Grande. She was born in Piños Altos, Mexico and came to the Ray-Sonora area in 1914.

As a Red Cross nurse, she trained to be a mid-wife and for over 50 years delivered babies, many locally. Over the years it was estimated that she had delivered over 1,000 babies and was honored for her services with an award from the Arizona Governor’s Office.

She was an active member of the Catholic Church in Sonora and in Kearny, and she belonged to the Immaculate Heart Association.

Survivors include her daughter, Armida S. Chavez of Guadalupe; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Rosary was said Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church in Kearny, and Father William Taft celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, Jan. 9.

Interment was at Mt. View Cemetery in Hayden.

Arrangements were made by Griffith Mortuary.
