Cullie F., Jr. Brannon

Posted 2009-05-13 by Arizona Newspapers
In memory of Cullie F. Brannon, Jr.

Cullie, 72, was born April 11, 1929, in Shamrock, Texas and passed away Sept. 4, 2001, in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Memorial services were held Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at the first Baptist Church in Cache, Oklahoma, where his long-time friend Nick Tawchaw-wickah spoke about Cullie’s younger days, and pastor Vivian Garza gave the scripture and message.

Cullie was raised on a farm near Cache where he went to school. After graduating from Cache High School in 1948 he and his high school sweetheart, Veneta Smith, were married. For the first six years of married life Cullie farmed and then served in the U.S. Army for two years.

For a short period after the service Cullie worked in the copper mine at Ray. He left the area to work briefly on a ranch in Kansas and then returned to Ray where he worked for 25 years as a mechanic and maintenance supervisor until he was forced into retirement in 1984 because of bad health.

Cullie enjoyed family, friends, hunting, fishing, farming, ranching, stock car racing, and lots of joking. He loved telling funny stories and relating experiences he had had with family and friends, and had a nickname for just about everyone he knew. He was a hard worker in whatever it was that needed to be done and he never forgot the poor times he had been through as he shared what he had with others.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Veneta; daughter, Valerie (Roy) Kelley; son, Richard Brannon; grandsons, Allen (Tania) Kelley, and Eric Kelley; great grandchildren, Curtis and Alyssa Kelley; sister, Betty Jo Brandimarte of Dallas Texas; and nephew, Robert Krone of Cache, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Cullie F. Brannon, Sr.; stepfather, Rupert Ward; sisters, Velma Graves, Margaret Balkum, Juanita Harmon, Edith Pickering, and Dorothy Krone.

Cullie’s family would like to express their deepest appreciation for all the prayers, thoughts, cards and condolences through his illnesses and passing. He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed. Until we meet in heaven…
