Arizona Weekly Journal Miner, Prescott, Arizona Territory Wednesday, July 6, 1898, page 2, column 5 Harry Ashton's Sudden Death Harry Ashton, one of the oldest of the old-time prospectors, and than whom few are better known in the territory, died at the Winsor hotel this morning at 8:30 o'clock. Mr. Ashton had been operating in Santa Maria district for the past few years, and about a week ago disposed of some mining property there, since when he has remained in Prescott. He had taken ill on Monday night, and although receiving good medical aid, he succumbed to the disease this morning. Deceased was about 65 years of age and had resided in this section for a great many years, being engaged exclusively in prospecting and mining, and when in camp was an industrious and hard-working man. He was good-hearted and generous to a fault, and his death will be mourned by a host of friends, as Harry did not have an enemy in the world. The remains were removed to Logan's undertaking establishment, from where the funeral will take place tomorrow (Thursday) at 4 o'clock p.m. Transcriber's note: Mr. Ashton is buried in an unmarked grave at the Citizens Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona. |
