Howard Burton Warner

Howard Burton Warner, 88, died on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 with family at his side at a Hospice of the Valley Patient Care Unit.

A memorial service was held at Howard’s memorial bench in Fountain Park on Monday, Oct. 6.

Howard was a member of the Fountain Hills Walking Club, and Fountain Park was a place which gave him both exercise and peace. His ashes will be interred at the Eden Memorial Cemetery in Eden, N.Y. next to his wife at a later date.

He was born, Aug. 15, 1920 in Lackawanna, N.Y. to Burton and Mildred (Howard) Warner. He graduated from Lackawanna High School in 1940. Mr. Warner attended various technical schools in the Buffalo area after graduation with emphasis on auto mechanics and horticulture.

He was a World War II veteran, and served our country in Petersburg, England as a sheet metal mechanic working on B17’s.

He met his wife Helen Mazur and married in June 1947. They lived in Buffalo, N.Y. for the first six years and then moved to Blasdell, N.Y. Mr. Warner and his wife Helen later moved to Eden, N.Y. in 1958, where they raised their five children. Mr. Warner relocated to Fountain Hills in April of 1998.

He worked for Bell Helicopter in Buffalo, N.Y. as a tool and die maker and then at Eden Tool and Die in Eden, N.Y. until he retired in August 1985. He was a charter member of the Eden Emergency Squad for 30 years until he moved to Arizona. He was a member of American Legion Post 880 in Eden, N.Y., Sunset Kiwanis Club in Fountain Hills, and the Walking Club in Fountain Hills. He walked Fountain Park almost every morning with members, and enjoyed having coffee with them after their morning walks.

He is survived by his daughter, Maryann Lisenby and husband Joe of Palmer, Ark.; daughter Colleen Saunders and husband Jack, of Fountain Hills; son Thomas Warner and wife Joan of Phoenix; daughter Roxanne Swallows and husband George, of Wasilla, Alaska; and son John Warner and wife Barbara of Eden, NY. He has seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Warner was preceded in death by his wife Helen Rose (Mazur) Warner in 1979.
