Carlisle Foley Ogden

Posted 2009-05-14 by Pat Wilson
Carlisle Foley Ogden, 86, of Fountain Hills passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at Hospice of the Valley in Scottsdale.

He was born June 28, 1922, in Peoria, Ill. the son of Clyde and Mary Edith (McCraw) Ogden, he a violinist and she a pianist. Fittingly he was named after two musicians.

He graduated from Miller Vocational High School, joined the 4th NCB Seabees and served in World War II in the Pacific.

Upon discharge, he attended the University of Minnesota, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and the Walker Art Institute. He graduated from the Chester Groth School of Music, becoming a trumpet player. He played on the road with the Guy DeLeo Big Band and other bands for 10 years during the ‘40s and early ‘50s.

He worked as a facilities engineer at various aircraft and helicopter companies in California and Arizona, retiring from McDonnell Douglas in 1991. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved photography, dancing, biking, hiking, swimming, and camping out, and adored his cats, Zeus and Boris. But most of all he loved jazz and classical music. He was a true free soul, a free spirit who danced to the beat of a different drummer. We will miss his witticisms and effervescent personality; he will live in our hearts forever.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy, of Fountain Hills, and daughter, Robin, of Minneapolis, Minn. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and stepfather, Dennis Eugene Westerdahl, and his son, Steven Craig Ogden.

Services were held at The Fountains, A United Methodist Church, Fountain Hills on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, the Reverend Kathleen Stolz officiating. A celebration of his life, with his musician friends participating in an open jam session, was held thereafter.

Interment will be at the Sacramento Valley Veterans National Cemetery, in Dixon, Calif. Contributions requested to Hospice of the Valley. Services entrusted to Shadow Mountain Mortuary.

Fountain Hills Times October 8, 2008.
