Kenneth R. Porter died April 23, 1999 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born in Murdock, Illinois, on Jan 5, 1921. During WWII he served with the Third Marines, Third Division, making beach head landings in Guam, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. He married Betty Braly in 1945 and moved to Santa Barbara in 1960 where he owned the B&E Egg Distribution Co, the Porterhouse Steak House and founded Ken Porter Auction Company. He was a member of the Lions Club, the Noon Football League, and a great supporter of SBHS sports and music programs. In 1973 he married Georgette Pinkston. After selling his auction business to his son, Dan, he relocated to Buellton to raise and raced thoroughbreds. He moved to a Kentucky farm in 1974 to further pursue his love of animals and finally retired to Phoenix, AZ in 1996. Ken was preceded in death by his son Dan. He is survived by his wife, Georgette, three children, Vicki Porter-Fink, Allan Wilmes and Kari Bohn, and five grandchildren. Graveside services are Tues April 27, 1999 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. Funeral arrangements are with Shadow Mountain Mortuary. |
