Posted 2009-05-15 by Kingman Daily Miner
Glenn Arthur Medlin, 76, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, in Ashville, N.C., at Mission Hospital.

He leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Patricia Medlin of Maggie Valley, N.C.; his daughter, Glenna Penn of Las Vegas; his granddaughters, Juliana (Clint) Congleton of Las Vegas, Rhiannon Turley of Nashville, Tenn., and Jennifer Bloomfield of Phoenix; his brothers, James R. Medlin Jr. of Rachel, Nev., and Steve Medlin of Alamo, Nev.; and his sisters, Patricia Davis and Cathy Davis, both of Truxton. He is also survived by Ila and Vern Albin of Kingman and numerous nieces and nephews; Patricia's children, Debra Deaton, Cynthia Broadhead and Mark Gomes; grandchildren, Devin and Deanna Thompson, and Julie and Wendy Broadhead; and great-grandchildren, Lily and Colin Patrick Thompson.

Glenn was born in Globe on March 6, 1933, to the late Mahala and James R. Medlin Sr. Glenn was the third of nine children. Glenn's family moved to Wikieup in 1939, where his family owned a cattle ranch for many years.

He attended Mohave County Union High School and graduated in 1952.

In 1953, Glenn joined the Army, and while home on leave and prior to shipping out to Korea, he married his high school sweetheart, Sherrill Isham of Kingman. After returning from Korea and leaving the Army, Glenn attended Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls, Ore. While working on Glen Canyon Dam, an accident occurred that changed Glenn's career path. The family moved to Bullhead City in 1959, where he purchased The Five Grand Bar.

He was, at one time, the city's fire chief, and he sat on the board of the Mohave Electric Cooperative for many years.

After selling the bar, he owned and operated Tri-State Refuse and Landfill that operated in California, Nevada and Arizona. He was a fixture and an inspiration to the community. He was always willing to help out his friends and neighbors.

After retirement, he and his wife, Patricia, moved to Maggie Valley in 1995. There he lived out the remainder of his years and made many good friends. Glenn enjoyed helping them in every way, particularly mechanically.

He traveled back to Arizona and Nevada to see his family as often as he could. He particularly loved going to his brother Steve's ranch in Alamo. He and Patricia loved to go hunting while visiting the ranch. He was an excellent hunter, tracker and fisherman.

Glenn was preceded in death by his daughter, Jackie Medlin Gonzales; his parents, Mahala and Jim Medlin; his two brothers, Fred Medlin and John "Sandpaper" Medlin; and two sisters, Celia Morton and Mahala Dollarhide.

He was a member of the Kingman Elks Lodge 468.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, at the Kingman Elks Lodge, 900 Gates Ave. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
