Albert T. Hernandez

Albert T. Hernandez, 60, of Winslow, passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 after a long battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 24, 1948 to Salvador and Estella Hernandez. He attended Winslow Public Schools, graduating in 1967. He served with the U.S. Army from 1968, serving with his beloved First Infantry Division in Vietnam in 1969, where he received a purple heart and the Bronze Star with four Oak Leaf Clusters for service above and beyond to call of duty. He worked for the AT&SF Railroad from 1973-1983 as a train order operator. He also worked for Harvey House Inc., at the Grand Canyon as a tour guide, until his disability. Albert enjoyed being in the great outdoors hunting and fishing and just being with his family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter Amy of Florida; sons Keith and Michael Lopez of Winslow and Christian of Montana; his brothers Carlos (Theresa) of Pico Rivera, Calif. and Sal (Margaret) and Mark of Winslow; and sisters Grace Miranda of Pico Rivera, Calif., Alice Luas (Charles) of Whittier, Calif. and Mary Bennett of Las Vegas, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his parents Salvador and Estella; brothers John and Joseph; and nephew Jonathon.

The family requests memorial donations be sent Northland Hospice, P.O. 997, Flagstaff, AZ 86002.

Services were held Thursday, May 7, 2009 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Winslow with celebrant Fr. Frank Chacon.
