Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ >>> Published on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 <<< Ellen Blanch Chapman, 92, of Lake Havasu City, passed away Oct. 6, 2017. She was born June 21, 1925 in Alexandria, South Dakota, the daughter of Joseph and Blanch Gust. When Ellen was a young girl, the family moved to Vashon Island, Washington. She graduated from Vashon Island High School in 1943. After high school, Ellen worked for the Seattle Port of Embarkation when she met Larry Chapman, who was serving in the U.S. Army. Quickly falling in love, they married and moved to Los Angeles. In 1947, she was blessed with her one and only son Steve. She then completed her AA degree at Fullerton Junior College focusing on finance-business. Ellen was a branch manager for Wells Fargo Bank at various locations for many years, eventually retiring. Starting in the 1960s, Ellen took on different development roles in Lake Havasu City. She and Larry bought land, building one of the first homes in town. She pursued her passion for real estate at this time. A member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Ellen held various positions in church groups for many years. She also organized and saw the completion of the Pathway to the Cross. Ellen was a beautiful soul and showed her grace and love to all who knew her. She was a woman of strong faith in God, family and a role model to all. Ellen taught and practiced kindness daily, lived life to the fullest and has forever left the hearts full of warmth and love. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Larry, son Steve, life companion Bill Eisenhamer, brother Norman Gust and sisters Betty Larson and Lola Nass. Ellen is survived by granddaughter Ashley Chapman; great-grandson Morrison Chapman; sister Janice Tanberg; brother Earl Gust and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A graveside service is set for 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 4 at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens. Donations can be made to Hospice of Havasu or a charity of your choice in Ellen’s name.
