Gertrude J. Chavez

Gertrude J. Chavez, 83, of Mammoth, passed away Friday, January 11, 2002, in Tucson.

She was born Nov. 17, 1918, in Santa Ana, Sonora, Mexico.

In 1937, she came to Tiger and had lived in the Mammoth area, where she raised her family, since that time. A homemaker, she was an active member of the Catholic Church.

Survivors include four daughters; Eva Lucero, of Puerto Penaco, Mexico, Terry Torres, of San Manuel; Socorro Sanchez, of Mammoth, Christina Romero, of Las Vegas, Nev.; four sons, Max, Gilbert and Frank Chavez, all of Mammoth and Felix Chavez, of Oracle; 37 grandchildren; many great and great-grandchildren.

The Rosary was held Tuesday afternoon followed by Father Gilbert Padilla celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial.

Interment was in Valley View Cemetery in Mammoth.
