Lillie Ruth Taylor Simpson, 85, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 2, 2009, in Safford. Lillie was born July 9, 1923, to JP Taylor and Margaret M. Lewis in Sasakwa, Okla., the youngest of 10 children. When she was an infant, the family moved to Sparenburg, Texas, and later to Socorro, N.M. She met and married Slim Lockridge in 1940 and had three sons, Billy, Jim and Tom; and one daughter, Betty. As the years passed, her great joy in life was raising her family and helping her extended family. In 1967, she and Slim divorced. She married Jim Simpson and moved to Oregon and eventually settled in Pima in 1971. Lillie will be remembered for her passion for visiting. She never met a stranger. Many wonderful friends and neighbors will remember her as a helpful, caring individual. Her last nine years were spent in the home of her daughter and in an assisted living home, where she made new and wonderful friends. Lillie was preceded in death by Slim Lockridge in 1971 and Jim Simpson in 1989. She is survived by her children, Bill (Mary) Lockridge of Ozona, Texas, Betty (Jerry) Nichols of Thatcher, Jim (Pat) Lockridge of Lubbock, Texas, and Tom (Beverly) Lockridge of Las Cruces, N.M.; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. We will miss you Mom, but you finally got your answer from God! Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 9, in the Caldwell Funeral Chapel. Lillie was laid to rest at the Pima Cemetery.
